Summer Session Program 2006 Strasbourg, France From 3 July to 1 September, 2006On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the ISU Summer Session Program, 17 years after ISU’s first SSP in Strasbourg in 1989, the ISU building and Central Campus welcomes you to your 2006 summer home in Illkirch-Graffenstaden and Strasbourg, France! The city of Strasbourg is located in Alsace, a north-eastern region of France. Alsace is bordered by the Rhine River to the East, the Vosges mountains to the West, the German plain to the North and the Territoire de Belfort to the South. Strasbourg is the European Capital and lies along the Rhine River, the natural border between France and Germany. It is home to the European Council, the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights. In 2006, the session is held on the premises of the ISU Central Campus. Strasbourg is a friendly, cosmopolitan city, the center of which has been classified a "World Heritage Site” by UNESCO. It is a border city at the crossroads of European routes of communication and is the seat of several international organizations. Inaugurated in September 2002, the ISU building is a world-class academic and conference facility, a center of excellence for interdisciplinary, international and intercultural space education. Exciting opportunities for expanding existing programs and developing others will be made possible by this new environment, where people from all nations of the world will come together to learn and to exchange knowledge in their quest to further the peaceful use and exploration of Space. This custom-designed building is testimony to the significant efforts of the Strasbourg Urban Community, the Bas-Rhin Department, the Alsace Region and the Government of France in supporting ISU and its mission. It forms an impressive setting as a global center for the study of Space.
